Exterior-cleaning guide

How to prepare a storefront for exterior cleaning

A useful storefront plan protects customer access and gives the cleaning crew a clear, workable area without turning ordinary preparation into guesswork.

Name the surfaces and the business priority

Begin with the result the business needs, then list the exterior areas connected to it. A cleaner entrance before an event, routine sidewalk upkeep, and a full low-rise exterior request are different scopes even when they involve the same address.

Photograph the complete storefront and each requested surface. Include signs, awnings, windows, doors, outdoor displays, painted areas, pavers, coatings, stains, cracks, drains, and landscaping so the quote does not rely on a single close view.

  • Building exterior or storefront sections
  • Sidewalks, entries, patios, and service areas
  • Must-do areas and optional additions
  • Known damage, coatings, repairs, or drainage concerns

Plan around customers, staff, and deliveries

Share opening hours, busiest periods, deliveries, tenant rules, and any entrance that must remain usable. The cleaning sequence can then be discussed around the way the property actually operates.

The business or property contact should handle customer notices, display or furniture moves, vehicle relocation, keys, gates, alarms, and any access permissions required by its own policies.

Clear and secure the work area

Move portable signs, furniture, merchandise, mats, planters, vehicles, and loose items. Close doors and windows, identify known leaks or failed seals, and keep people clear of active cleaning and drying areas.

High-rise access, hazardous-material cleanup, industrial restoration, fleet washing, and unusually large parking areas are not automatically part of ordinary storefront cleaning and require separate evaluation.
