Older masonry can include softer brick, weathered mortar, past repairs, and finishes that react differently to water or cleaning products. We match the proposed treatment to those conditions, with the gentlest effective approach as the goal. Lower pressure can be part of the plan, but chemistry, application, contact time, and rinsing need just as much attention.

How we handle the work
- Assess first: review the masonry, mortar joints, coatings, previous repairs, staining, openings, and water-entry concerns. Identify areas that need repair or specialist advice before washing.
- Choose and test: propose treatments compatible with each material, test a discreet area, and assess it after drying before extending the method. Adjust the plan if the surface responds poorly.
- Clean with control: protect nearby finishes, fixtures, plants, and occupied areas; manage application, rinse pressure, and runoff; and review the result against the agreed scope.
A few things before the visit
- Share the address, approximate age, photos, and the areas you want cleaned. Include known leaks, loose mortar, flaking finishes, repairs, and previous treatments.
- Provide any preservation specifications, building-owner requirements, or required approvals before scheduling. A designated landmark may need additional coordination.
- Tell us about events, opening hours, entrances, pedestrian traffic, water access, and sensitive surrounding surfaces so we can plan the work area.
Respecting age and existing conditions
Cleaning addresses surface buildup. It does not repoint mortar, repair cracked masonry, restore failed paint, or resolve moisture problems. Those conditions may need attention before cleaning.
Some stains and age-related variation should remain when further cleaning could damage the material. The aim is a cared-for building that retains its character, with realistic expectations agreed before work begins.
