Buildup is not the same as damage
Dirt and outdoor buildup sit on or within a surface differently from fading, oxidation, paint failure, cracks, spalling, loose materials, and damaged seals.
When surrounding buildup is removed, pre-existing damage or discoloration may become easier to see. That does not mean the cleaning created the underlying condition.
Some stains penetrate or change the material
Oil, rust, paint, fertilizer marks, tire marks, and other substances can absorb into porous concrete or alter a finish. General cleaning may improve the appearance without fully removing the mark.
On siding, oxidation and fading can create uneven color or chalky residue that ordinary house washing does not restore.
How expectations are set

- Identify the material and any coatings or repairs
- Photograph damage and the heaviest staining
- Discuss which areas can be cleaned safely
- Avoid promises about permanent or unknown conditions
